Norway leads the international negotiations in the UN regarding a mandate for human rights in business. John Ruggie has been the UN Secretary General's Special Representative for human rights and business since 2005.
"We are very pleased to be able to meet Professor Ruggie, and we follow his work closely. OECD is in the process of updating its regulations for export credits, and suggestions from John Ruggie to include human rights are an important part of the updated regulations. GIEK and all other export credit institutions in OECD countries follow the same regulations, " says Kamil Zabielski, senior adviser on corporate social responsibility in GIEK.
John Ruggie is a Professor at Harvard University, both in human rights and political science. In addition, he has a professorship at Harvard Law School. He has been named one of the world's ten most ethical leaders by the journals "Foreign Policy" and "Ethical Corporation". Among other things, he is the mind behind the Milennium Development Goals and the establishment of the UN's Global Compact.
