Environment and social responsibility

GIEK's social responsibility policy

GIEK aims to be a driving force in promoting sustainable solutions that benefit society and the environment. Environmental and social considerations therefore play an important part in GIEK's overall risk assessment of applications. By taking the environment and social aspects into consideration, GIEK supports the contribution made by Norwegian exporters and investors to sustainable development.

Sustainable lending

GIEK wishes to promote the UN Millennium Goals by helping to realise worthwhile projects in developing countries. The desire to promote Norwegian exports should not come into conflict with aid policy. Cases which are offered a guarantee go through our normal credit assessment process to ensure the ability to deliver, income and ability to handle the debt.

Openness concerning GIEK's environmental policy: Current projects classified as category A. All GIEK cases are categorised into three groups, A to C, depending on the presumed environmental consequences and social impacts. Category A projects might entail considerable negative environmental consequences and impacts on local communities.

GIEK's anti-corruption policy

Corruption is destructive to society and counteracts a healthy economic development. GIEK works to prevent corruptive practises relating to the conclusion of export contracts.
